December 22, 2017 Comment 0 Mala Carne [Closed] Unfortunately, Mala Carne closed in July 2019. Mala Carne is a tiny cafe in the Southside of Glasgow, near Mount Florida train station and Hampden Park national stadium. Mala Carne serves vegetarian and vegan food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is also my second living room as I don’t live far, and am frequently too lazy to prepare my own breakfast in the weekends. I have a lot experience with their menu! This menu contains several breakfast dishes, lunch items as well as daily specials that always use fresh seasonal produce. There are a few vegetarian dishes containing eggs or cheese, but there really is a lot of choice for vegans too. My personal favourites are the tofu scramble with pistachios and chili oil (hot hot hot) on toasted sourdough bread from the breakfast menu and the smoked carrot bagel with cashew cream, capers, seaweed and a watercress side salad from the lunch options. When I feel a bit more indulging, I opt for the tofu club sandwich, which is filled with smoked tofu, veggies and lots of vegan mayo (maybe a wee bit too much, actually). It’s a real treat! Speaking of which, Mala Carne always has a selection of freshly baked cakes and sweeties in, which are usually pre-dominantly vegan. My favourite for takeaway is the cinnamon bun (especially when it’s still warm), but if you have time to sit in and indulge, I dare you to order the banana bread with fresh fruit, seeds and plenty of syrup. One final winning argument is that Mala Carne uses the best soy milk I’ve ever tasted – so if you want to convince an omni friend of plant milk in coffee, this is where you should start! Budget: Mains from the breakfast and lunch menu cost roughly between £6 and £8.
