December 21, 2017 Comment 0 Big Feed Street Food Market There are a ton of vegan-friendly and vegan restaurants in Glasgow, but when it comes to quick, delicious street food, nothing is better than a market! The Big Feed Street Food Market happens roughly once a month and brings together the best street food vendors from across Scotland. While this is not a fully vegan market, there is a variety of stalls with vegan options available. Some vendors change with every installment, but others (including a few vegan ones) are Big Feed regulars. Check the website for upcoming events & list of vendors. Labelling: Vegan options are clearly labelled on the boards, but if you’re not sure, just ask the vendors themselves. Vegan Options: Freddie & Hicks: Classic Burger & BBQ Burger (with vegan cheese), loaded fries (without the halloumi)Chick + Pea: Mediterranean Flatbread with falafel, Falafel Hummus potGinger & Chilli: Bengali Coconut DaalBurrito: Sweet Potato WrapSummerhouse Pantry: various cakesCharlie Mills Coffee: plant milk available Budget: It costs £2 to get into the Big Feed Street Food Market and the stalls price their dishes individually. Mains are between £5 and £7, cakes around £3 and alcoholic drinks (e.g. a pint of beer) around £4. I went to the market twice in December and tried the burgers from Freddie & Hicks while my partner had the Bengali Coconut Daal from Ginger & Chilli. The burger is a full meal even by itself – I don’t know how I would have eaten chips with it – and the consistency is incredible. It’s easy to eat it with your hands, without the entire thing falling apart – which is often what I hate about vegan burgers. The daal is really nice too and is served with a chapati, rice, and two toppings, such as almonds or coriander. Despite stuffing my face with a massive burger, I couldn’t resist but ordering dessert from Summerhouse Pantry. There were several vegan options to choose from – always a welcome surprise when it comes to desserts – and I opted for a yummy Apple Crumble. The Big Feed Street Food Market is fully licensed, and drinks are supplied by West brewery. There is a beer bar, as well as a tiny truck pouring prosecco on draft. In the winter time there is also mulled wine. Unfortunately there is no heating in the warehouse – so layer up!
